About Me

I am a mid-career Kenyan Ecologist and conservationist with over 14 years of experience in the Research and conservation sector, with nearly 7 of those in senior leadership positions across two globally recognized conservation institutions. I am demonstrably experienced in restoration ecology and ecosystem management in mixed-use rangelands. I started off my career studying elephant Ecology and their impact on vegetation at Mpala Research Center, Kenya, before working on Rangeland health and restoration ecology at the same site. I then worked for the USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range at New Mexico State University as a Research Assistant, completing my PhD in Rangeland Ecology in 2017. After completing my studies, I transitioned into conservation work as the Head of Research at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, before joining GZT in 2021. In my current position at the Grevy’s Zebra Trust, I provide oversight on ecological and institutional Monitoring and Evaluation. My research interests include rangeland restoration, natural resource inventory and monitoring, use of technology for biodiversity conservation, and the influence of patch-level climate and soil characteristics on ecosystem structure and function. My management and organizational development interests focus on staff capacity building, team cohesion, strategic planning, and institutional impact modeling. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, trivia, and unnecessarily detailed conversations about computer hardware. Find my CV here.
